Programs

Canoeing Lake DillonThe BOEC offers outdoor education experiences throughout the year, both single and multi-day courses, featuring many adventure activities in many locales in the Rocky Mountain and SE Utah region. We offer custom-designed courses for groups to meet specific needs and goals, and we offer open enrollment courses for individuals on an ongoing basis throughout the year, including multi-day camps designed for special needs. A BOEC course is an opportunity to experience challenge and personal growth in a natural setting, within a safe and supportive community. Courses vary in content, duration, tone, and pace, all depending on the specific needs and abilities of the group.

The cornerstone of our winter programming is the Adaptive Ski and Ride Program, based at both the Breckenridge and Keystone Ski Resorts. The Ski Program offers full and half-day adaptive lessons daily throughout the winter season. Stand-up, Bi-skis, monoskis, snowboards-all are adapted to the individual’s unique abilities, as is the lesson itself. Ski and Ride lessons can also be the primary element of a winter, multi-day course.

The BOEC Internship Program is a semester length experience consisting of an adventure course, skills training and hands-on work experience. Many interns come to the program to gain outdoor leadership skills, certification in Therapeutic Recreation or just for the life experience. For all, the Internship experience becomes one of the most memorable and rewarding times of their lives. Many of our field staff started their careers as interns.

Professional Challenge offers the best in custom designed programs for working teams, executives, managers and adult groups. Outdoor activities and team initiatives, combined with the Experiential Learning Process, focuses your group’s energy to enhance communication skills, relationship-building, trust, and much more, in a fun and engaging outdoor experience. Sessions are usually ½ to a full day in length, but multi-day options are also available.

The BOEC operates on public lands under special permits from the US Bureau of Land Management and the US Forest Service. We practice Leave No Trace principles and strive to be stewards of our wilderness areas.

“So if something in us must change, spending time in nature provides a good beginning. This means that within nature, within the natural world, are all of the materials and tenets needed for healing human beings. Nature is the textbook for those who care to study it and the storehouse of remedies for human ills.”
